Town Supervisor Sausville Secures $5 million in Funding for Malta

Additional Monies for Town Foundation & Economic Development Studies

Town Supervisor Paul Sausville (R,C,I) today announced that he and the town of Malta had reached an agreement with Luther Forest Technology Campus and Global Foundries that will bring over $5 million to the town to fund local projects and an economic development impact study.

"The cornerstone of my service to Malta has been my belief in smart economic growth that safeguards our town's rich history," said Sausville. "I have led the only way I know how, by doing what's best for Malta. Today I am proud to announce that by working with Global Foundries we take another step towards economic prosperity through responsible growth."

Under the agreements, which Sausville helped secure, Malta will receive $1 million in funding from the Luther Forest Technology Campus to construct a 34-acre ball field and a $3 million donation to the town's Malta Foundation which will use the interest on the endowment to fund worthwhile community causes.

$750,000 of the gift will be donated when the shell of the building is completed. $1,125,000 will be awarded when the first prototype chip is developed and another $1,125,000 when the plant reaches full operation.

Sausville also announced that the LTFC Corporation would donate $1,088,088 for underground power line mitigation fees. The fees will be placed in a dedicated fund to finance the replacement of existing power lines with underground lines along the Route 9 corridor.

Global Foundries also donated $100,000 to Malta to study the impact of the chip factory on the town's quality of life and make necessary adjustments to Malta's Master Plan. Sausville has been a consistent advocate for reforming the Master plan which he says favors large-scale development over the desires of residents.

"I have been a strong and consistent advocate for reforming our town's master plan, which was forced through by a faction of town board members and benefits big-city development at the expense of Malta residents," said Sausville. "We need to be prudent in our reforms, and refocus our efforts toward smart economic growth that creates jobs while preserving Malta's small-town feel. I helped secure these donations to do just that."
